Tesselation #26: Built around Love
This one started as an idle sketch, exploring new color palettes. I’d tried a few new ideas before this and hadn’t made it very far; I was in an experimentation phase. But it had some interesting ideas, so I kept expanding it.
Around the same time, I had just begun to date Holly, and she liked/likes to leave sweet little notes around my apartment on occasion. So, at one point while this tesselation was about a third done, she wrote on the chalkboard that she loved me. Of course this little note was never meant to be permanent, but it was sweet, so I left it there for days. As I expanded the chalk, I got closer to eventually having to erase it. Eventually, I decided to just build the rest of the art around the message. The message became the central focus of the work.
