Tesselation #24: Grandma's
My Grandma has long been the biggest fan of my tesselations. This one, made for her Christmas present, was very special for that reason.
For this tesselation, I didn’t want to do anything experimental; I wanted to give Grandma the strongest version of my most proven ideas. In the past, I’d had the best results with about four colors, so that’s what I did. With four colors, it’s easy to have adjacent shapes feel like they link together into complex structures. However, it’s not so few colors that you get bored.
I carefully chose the colors to match the setting. The chosen site was her dining room; the second picture in the gallery shows the area. The tesselation would replace the painting of flowers on the far wall. The area was full of greens and browns, with some coral in the adjacent room, so that’s what I gave her. I think it turned out well; it’s a classic example of this art form. I didn’t really explore any new techniques here.
